Jeff and Marion Crable founded Wind Wagon Retrievers as a kennel dedicated to breeding, training, and testing of quality gun dogs.  We are located in Eastern Kansas within easy driving distance for hunting and testing in six states.  We hunt over our dogs in both upland and water fowling situations.

Our training program stresses high praise, the use of attrition, and the application of adequate and timely corrections when needed.  This program is intended to maximize each dog’s ability while boosting confidence and a positive attitude.  Our puppy training program emphasizes the concept of conditioned learning.

We have handled our dogs at all levels of AKC (Junior, Senior, and Master) and UKC/HRC (Started, Seasoned, Finished, and Upland) licensed Retriever Hunt Test events.  Our dogs have earned numerous titles at these events. We believe that these programs are an important part of ensuring that the dogs we breed demonstrate the hunting and retrieving skills that were valued when the breed was first founded.  We give back to both programs by judging at hunt test events.  Most of all, though, we enjoy hunting with our dogs and training for hunt tests simply makes them more pleasurable to be with in the field.

We believe that you hunt with a dog 30-40 days a year (if you are really lucky) but you live with it 365 days a year. Our breeding program is focused on pairing hunting retrievers that have proven abilities and pedigrees, are athletic and sound with good disposition and conformation.  Our goal is to produce working retrievers with outstanding natural hunting skills and well-balanced, personable dispositions. These dogs will be equally welcome in your home as companions, in your duck blind as a hunting partner, or at a hunt test or field trial as a competitor.
