Facilities
The Wind Wagon Retrievers property is located in the Central Flyway tucked between McLouth and Lake Perry, Kansas. We're about 42 miles west of the Kansas City International Airport (MCI), 40 miles northeast of Topeka, Kansas, and 18 miles north of Lawrence, Kansas.
With 40 acres of training grounds on-site and access to thousands more nearby, we provide our dogs with a variety of training scenarios and hunting experiences. Our grounds include a combination of mature evergreen forest areas and native prairie fields - home to dove, quail, deer and wild turkey. Some of the open fields are allowed to grow naturally from spring through fall. The dense cover provides an outstanding scent tracking experience for our dogs.
We also have two ponds on our property which provide a variety of training opportunities including challenging waterfowl training scenarios. The technical pond is comprised of a series of three ponds with an e-pond in the middle for training a multitude of water concepts.
Training Facilities Include
• East Pond – a 1.5 acre training pond
• Swim-By Pond – our newest development, this is comprised of a series of three ponds with an e-pond in the middle for teaching a multitude of technical water concepts in a controlled setting.
• Upland Fields - we've logged and cleared about 10 additional acres that will be specially graded with rolling topography. This area will be seeded with tall fescue and clover. Next spring, certain sections will also be planted with Indian corn. The upland field will provide challenging marking, tracking, lining, and casting scenarios for all levels of gun dog work. It will promote our native pheasant and quail populations, and together with our ponds, will provide new habitat for waterfowl.
