Trained Dogs
It is our experience that by the time pups are trained and ready for sale, they have already been sold. Please be sure to inquire as early as possible to reserve a dog. This allows us to tailor the young dog's training to the individual hunter.
Started dogs are typically 9-15 months old and have 4-7 months of
training. They have been exposed to birds and gunfire and should have
the following skills:
- Basic obedience including sit, here, heel, mat/place, and kennel
- Good quartering pattern for upland hunting
- Steady to wing and shot
- Demonstrate a good retrieve and hand delivery
- Introduced to basic duck blind and boat manners
- Able to hold for & retrieve single or double marks in a duck hunting scenario
Started
dogs have a basic sense of obedience to commands and have been exposed
to many crucial aspects of hunting. They are not finished and will need
further exposure and training to advance them as first class hunting and
household companions.
We want to keep you apprised of areas of strength and weakness in each animal, so there is little to no surprises. It is recommended that the new owner pick up his dog in person. This allows for necessary familiarization between the dog and the owner.
